How do I buy from Central Plains Bison Inc.?
We currently offer regular curbside delivery to various locations around southern Manitoba. We are in Winnipeg approximately every 3 weeks with pick-up locations at Oak Bluff, Grant Park & St Vital.
Pick up from our ranch is possible, by appointment.
All orders need to be completed through our online store. If you are not comfortable ordering online, please contact us and we can assist you.
Do I need to preorder if I’m coming to the ranch?
Yes. All orders must be submitted through our website and an agreed upon time for pick-up will be given. This is to ensure that you don't drive all the way out here and no one is home.
Where do you deliver to?
Winnipeg (Oak Bluff, Grant Park & St Vital), Portage la Prairie, Carman, Treherne and anywhere in between. Contact us if you'd like to place an order and are from outside our area.
We do not ship our meat and meat is only available for purchase within Manitoba as we are provincially inspected.
How does curbside pick-up work?
When you place your order online, there is a box at checkout that asks you where you would like to pick-up your order. Write your choice in there. (Grant Park/St Vital, etc.)
The day prior to your pick-up, we will contact you directly with your specific pick-up time. We will only be at the specific pick-up location for 15 minutes to allow us to stay on schedule so please keep that in mind.
At the location, you will pick up your meat and be on your way. We do not carry extra meat with us for sale on delivery day.
Is there a minimum order?
There’s no minimum order, per se. We do appreciate orders of $100+ for curbside delivery as there are lot of fees incurred with us being on the road. This helps us avoid having to begin charging for delivery. There is no minimum for ranch pick up.
Is there a charge for delivery?
At this time, we do not charge for delivery.
Do I need to be home to receive my delivery?
We do not deliver right to your door. You will need to meet us at a central location to pick-up your meat order on the specific date/time and location of your choice.
When is the order deadline?
Order deadline is always at NOON the day prior to delivery. Please keep in mind that we’re a family run farm and do all the jobs from caring for animals to packing orders and delivering them, so we may not be able to make exceptions if you do not meet the deadline.
Do you give your animals antibiotics or medications?
No we don’t — At Central Plains Bison Inc. all of our animals are antibiotic free.
We will not however refuse treatment of a sick animal, we just simply do not sell that meat to our customers. Instead we allow for the safe and legal withdrawal period and eat the meat personally.
It’s worth mentioning that after the withdrawal period this meat is safe. For transparency reasons we remove this meat from our Central Plains Bison Inc. meat program so you can feel confident that the products you’re feeding your family come from animals never treated with medications.
Do you give your animals hormones?
In Canada, hormones are not permitted to be given to bison. So all bison grown in Canada — Central Plains Bison meat included — is hormone free.
What do you feed your bison?
Our bison are fed grass/hay and they have access to free choice, whole plant corn silage.
Where are your animal processed?
All our animals are processed at a provincially inspected plant in Schanzenfeld, MB.
Are your products gluten and dairy free?
Some of our meat products are gluten and dairy free however, some are not. A list of ingredients is provided within each category on our website.
Please keep in mind that our butchers are not a gluten and dairy free facility so although unlikely, cross contamination can happen.
If you have more specific questions regarding allergies, please reach out to us.
Is your cured meat nitrate and nitrite free?
Our dry-cured meats use nitrites as a necessary preservative to increase shelf life, enhance colour, and most importantly, to eliminate the harmful Botulism bacteria.
All cured deli meats use sodium nitrate or nitrite as preservatives, even those labelled organic or natural.
Can I buy your meat at any other locations?
Zinn Farms and Jardins St Leon Gardens carry some of our products. They are both family owned and operated businesses.
Other than that, purchasing direct from us, your personal rancher, is the only option.
